Notes and reactions
Updated 27.10.2026
You can attach a note to any class — homework, materials, links — and leave a reaction. For yourself you can keep personal notes that nobody else sees.
Notes
Notes open from a class: on a computer in the class window, on a phone in the details sheet. The "Notes" section is visible if notes already exist or you have the right to add them.
Notes are written by staff with the rights "Add notes to lessons", "Edit notes on lessons" and "Delete notes from lessons". A teacher gets these rights from the "Teacher" role. Only the author can edit or delete a note, and only while the class belongs to their groups and institutes; nobody changes other people's notes, administrators included. Notes are deleted together with their class.
The "Add" button opens the editor. The text supports markdown: bold, italic, headings, lists, quotes, code and links — the bar above the field adds the markup for you, and on the right (or below, on a phone) there is a preview. The "Attach a file" button uploads an attachment at once, before saving; "Remove the attachment" deletes it. You can attach a picture (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, TIFF, AVIF, HEIC), a PDF, a Word, Excel or PowerPoint document, an OpenDocument document or plain text (.txt, .csv, .tsv, .md) — in UTF-8 or, for example, a CSV table from a Russian Excel; other files — HTML, SVG, archives, scripts — are not accepted. An attachment other than a picture is downloaded, not opened in the browser. "Save" publishes the note, "Cancel" closes the editor.
The number of notes is shown on the class card by an icon; its hint is "Notes: 3".
My notes
Below the shared notes, in the class sheet (on a phone) and in the class window (on a computer), there is a "My notes" section. These are personal records for a class: a reminder, a question for the teacher, a plan for preparing. No rights are needed for them — any reader can keep them, signed in or not.
The editor and every note say where it is stored: "Visible only to you" is a note in your account, "Only on this device" is a note written without signing in. A personal note's card looks different from a shared one: a dashed border with a light tint and a lock icon. The text is written the same way as in shared notes — with markdown and a preview; personal notes have no attachments. "Add" opens the editor, and a finished note has buttons to edit and delete it.
Where notes are stored:
- After signing in — in your account. Only you see them, on any device; neither teachers nor administrators see them.
- Without signing in — in the app's storage (IndexedDB) on this device, labelled "Only on this device". The app will offer to sign in so that notes are kept on all your devices. If you clear the browser's data, such notes disappear. Notes written earlier in the browser's former storage are moved over by themselves on update.
- When you sign in, the notes from the device are moved into your account once and removed from the device, and the label changes to "Visible only to you". If signing in broke off halfway, sending again does not create a second copy: every note goes with its own key.
The language of notes
Notes are written in one language and read in the language of the app. If a note is not written in your language (Russian, English or Chinese), VISH shows its machine translation and quietly labels it "machine translation" under the text. The "Show original" button brings back the author's words, "Show translation" takes you back. While the translation is not ready, the original is shown. This applies to both shared and personal notes; VISH does not change the texts themselves.
Reactions
Reactions are emoji under a class. Everyone sees them, and any signed-in user can add one: no rights are needed, only signing in. Without signing in the app prompts "Sign in to react".
The "Add a reaction" button opens a set of emoji. Tapping your own reaction again removes it. The set of available emoji may be limited on a particular installation of the app.
On a phone the row of reactions sits under the card, on a computer inside the class block; tapping a reaction does not open the class.
